ISTANBUL – Turkish Daily News
The Culture and Tourism Ministry is preparing to film a documentary about 13th century Sufi poet and mystic Mevlana Jalalludin Mohammad.
The film will be shot in Hollywood with American author Deepak Chopra narrating Rumi's life story.
There are ongoing talks with Chopra, said the tourism ministry's spokesman, Özgür Özarslan, the daily Milliyet reported Sunday.
Chopra was chosen because he is one of the most respected researchers on Rumi and his life and works. Parts of the film will also be shot in Konya, Rumi's hometown in central Anatolia. There will also be interviews with people who were influenced by Rumi's philosophy. Some of these people are world-renowned.
Interviews with Madonna and Antonio Banderas are part of the plan. The shooting of the documentary film will start in 2008, and once it is finished it will be on the market in DVD format.
The documentary, made up of three parts, will run for 90 minutes. Which of Rumi's words affected you the most? will be the question posed to those who appear in it.
