Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel said here Thursday that the only way to thwart the West conspiracies against Iranians is through reliance on its own cultural roots.
Addressing the International Congress on Molana, he added that the first word, stated after the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, was 'independence', which is the most important pillar of a nation's identity.
He noted that Molana, the prominent poet of the 13th century (1207-1273), is one of the greatest cultural assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The speaker added that the UNESCO has encouraged nations and governments worldwide to honor Molana, and that Iran has the foremost right and the duty to do it.
The International Congress on Molana was inaugurated in Tehran by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday before moving on to Tabriz, East Azarbaijan province. The gathering was held for two days in Tehran, two days in Tabriz and one day in Khoy.
